Your 7 am lecture got cancelled at the last moment.

There are two ways to look at it, either curse the college management for not notifying earlier or another way to look at the situation is positively that is you got one hour of free time in which you can either study, enjoy time with friends or do whatever you want.

Event of lecture been conducted isn’t in your power. If lecture is cancelled, you can’t do anything. So instead of cursing and wasting your energy for no outcome, why don’t we use that energy and create a positive outcome?

Stoicism believes that there are event in our control and there are events that are not in our control.

We shouldn’t think much about events not in our control because…well what good in it? It is or has already occurred and we don’t have any power over it.

But we do posses a power of how we let that event affect us, we have the power over our PERSPECTIVE.

Perception is how we see and understand what occurs around us and what we decide those events will mean

In the example I gave you at the start, I didn’t let the event of lecture getting cancelled let me affect in a negative way, I looked for a positive side of it.

If we make a habit of looking at the positive side of the obstacle or unexpected events, it will be lot easier to deal with them and many a times will help us grow.

Please note, I am currently reading Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday and this idea came from his book.
